Samnang's Story - an NGO video for Temple Garden Foundation

It was great working as a videographer on this video for Temple Garden Foundation (TGF), a small NGO based in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

The video has been a successful fundraising tool to raise much needed funds to help people in Chi Kreang district. Known for its temples, Siem Reap is one of the poorest provinces in Cambodia, so it’s great to be able to support the vital work TGF do.

The Cambodia Run Challenge is an annual event that has been set up to raise money for TGF. If you get the chance please head over to their page and check it out.

Location scouting for Girl Rising

I was contacted by the team from The Documentary Group and worked as a location scouting for Girl Rising, an inspirational, feature-length documentary about the empowerment of girls around the world.

I also managed a team of translators who subtitled the documentary into Khmer for the Cambodian premiere.

It was great meeting Richard Robbins and the team when they were over for the shoot.

Last of the Elephant Men

I worked on this feature-length documentary for over 4 years as a researcher, producer, director, camera operator and Steadicam operator.

Spending extended periods of time working alongside the Bunong and their elephants in Mondulkiri was life-changing.

Working with Daniel Ferguson, Arnaud Bouquet and the teams at InformAction Films and La Compagnie des Taxi-brousses, was incredible opportunity to learn about the filmmaking process.

The documentary won numerous awards worldwide, had a limited theatrical release, has been aired on TV5 in Canada and France 2 and is available to watch on Amazon Prime.

I’d love to work on another project of this scope in the future.

Working as a video journalist in Cambodia

I was called by Jack Highwood from Elephant Valley Project to tell me that Sambo, a female elephant from Kampong Speu Province, had trampled her owner and was running amok. I travelled down with him and his team of mahouts over the following days to cover story as a video journalist (VJ).

Jack’s team and a team from Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Center monitored Sambo, before transporting her to the rescue centre.

I’ve since worked as a video journalist for the Phnom Penh Post and international agencies including AFP. I look forward to covering more stories in Cambodia and throughout the region.

Early Beginnings - Starting out as a camera operator and videographer in Cambodia

The Wedding Singer

The Wedding Singer takes me back over 10 years to when I first arrived in Cambodia to work as a camera operator and videographer. I was fascinated by all things Khmer and when I was invited to a wedding, I took my camera to document the occasion.

The Inaugural Cambodia International Film Festival

The Wedding Singer was selected to be screened as part of the 1st Cambodia International Film Festival. With the 10th edition just around the corner, it’s incredible to see how far both the festival and I have come over the last decade. I look forward to contributing more documentaries and films in the future.
