Lighting camera operator for BECL Corporate Video

It was great working as a lighting camera operator and drone pilot with Christina and the teams from Cast Laboratories Singapore and Cast Laboratories Cambodia to produce this corporate video for Board of Engineers Cambodia Laboratory (BECL).

The video highlights the work that BECL do to emphasize the importance of testing and ensure safety standards in both existing and new structures in the burgeoning Cambodian construction market. This is an increasingly important job as the construction boom in Phnom Penh and many areas of Cambodia shows little sign of slowing down.

The corporate video demonstrates the tests Cast Laboratories do in Cambodia, including compression strength testing of concrete, testing steel and concrete in a non-destructive way, rebar tensile testing and many more of the services they provide.

My work as a lighting camera operator included working with two, Apurture C300D ii lights and 2 LED panels to give the video clean, even lighting to highlight the technical processes. Overall the client was very happy with the quality of the images I shot. The variety I provided them with allowed them to create split-screen segments in post-production to add dynamism to the final video. You can see another corporate video I shot here and more examples of my camera work here.

NGO Photographer in Siem Reap | On Assignment for Kiva

It was a great opportunity to work as a photographer and videographer with international NGO Kiva in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I spent two days photographing and filming a series of case studies about people who have taken out loans offered by Kiva to buy a cooking stove made by the social enterprise ACE. It was my first job through Storyhunter and will hopefully be the first of many.

The ACE stove is a great invention. It’s very efficient and within no time at all after turning the stove on and adding the biomass fuel there is a roaring fire that is hot enough to cook rice, stir fries and soups. The stove comes with a solar panel, so it perfect for people living off grid. It also has a USB port so it can be used to charge phones and other battery-powered electric devices and it’s smoke-less, so it’s a cheaper, quicker and healthier alternative to using charcoal which is commonly used in Cambodia.

It’s great to see how such a seemingly small thing can help improve people’s finances, save them time (if they collected fire wood) and contribute to improving their lives. The kind hospitality of the Khmer people is second-to-none. Everyone of the people we filmed and photographed invited us into their homes with open arms, were patient and had a good laugh. It really is one thing about Cambodia that makes the job easy, rewarding and fun.

Below are a selection of images from the couple of days I spent filming case studies and taking photos. You can see more examples of my work as an NGO photographer here and here.

Greenscreen shoot for Singaporean Agency with remote video feed for director

I was contacted to work as a videographer for Team Grey, a Singaporean agency. I hired Need Image Studio as they required full-length greenscreen shots with walking, so my studio wasn’t big enough. As the director wanted a live feed from the 2 camera shoot, we set up live video feed using an ATEM Mini Pro so that the client could review the video as we were shooting. It worked well and the client was happy with the final results.

Greenscreen studio for videography and photography

I changed my studio into a videography studio to shoot greenscreen of the sign language for the videos I was making as part of the ACCESS project about providing microfinance services for people with disabilities. The green screen worked perfectly, my lighting did a great job and the ladies from Deaf Development Programme were a pleasure to work with. Please get in touch with them if you need any sign language for any videos that you make in Cambodia.

NGO videographer on a series of social media videos about microfinance for people with disabilities

I was hired as a videographer to produce a series of short videos for social media for Good Return and Chamroeun Microfinance to promote the product they have designed to provide people with with disabilities in Cambodia with financial services. The 6 videos show different aspects of the project and are designed for multiple audiences (financial institutions and their employees, trainers, beneficiaries) to best implement the upscaling of the project. The video will be used on various organisations social media pages to point towards more in-depth information about the project (web pages, full versions of the videos).
